Safeway of Junction City, Oregon
The UPS Store® location inside the Safeway grocery store in Junction City is a prime example of a Store in Store model: a small-footprint location inside of a larger retail establishment, offering most of the traditional The UPS Store® services within a 417-square foot space.
Jessica Mermis, franchise owner of this The UPS Store® location, has seen the value in reaching different customers as well as the lesser costs in rent and payroll that are associated with a smaller brick-and-mortar presence.
Mermis also partners closely with Safeway Store Director Michael Jennings, who shares, "Existing customers shop more often because they come in not just for groceries. Customers don't have to shop in multiple places to get what they need, and this The UPS Store® location adds another layer of convenience for them."

Hardware Store Owner Becomes The UPS Store® Franchisee
Michael Collins, the owner of a local hardware store in Margate, NJ, needed a way to differentiate his business from his larger competitors. Margate is a small beach community with a strong need for centralized packing and shipping services, and the nearest solution was inconvenient for the community to access. Collins, recognizing the business potential, expanded his business model by opening a non-traditional The UPS Store® center in his hardware store to provide his customers a convenient place to check off a variety of items on their to-do lists.
"We saw that our community was lacking a resource that offered our small island residents packing and shipping services, with the closest location miles away," said Collins. "There was a hole that needed to be filled and a The UPS Store center seemed like the natural fit for our business and community."
A Stronger Business and Community
Collins already had the commercial space and business fundamentals needed to become a The UPS Store® franchise owner, so integrating another business was practically seamless.
Local consumers love the new expanded services and the ability to get more done without running additional errands. The hardware store’s existing customer base of local handymen and contractors can handle their business needs in the same place they buy their tools and supplies, and the summer residents and visitors can ship packages and luggage conveniently.
